GuilfordPACT is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that was formed to increase understanding, dialogue, and involvement among Guilford citizens for local political issues that will affect education and our community as a whole. We are a political action committee and intend to engage citizens in political action to effect positive change in Guilford.
While involvement in the political process is important for many reasons, the most pressing is the upcoming debate and anticipated referendum regarding school facilities at the Guilford High School and/or the Adams Middle School (grades 7-8).
The Guilford Board of Education (BOE) embarked on a process to address Guilford School Facilities in 2004 by forming the Community Task Force on School Facilities (CTFSF) in order to investigate needs and options. The CTFSF first presented their findings to the BOE in February of 2008 and have been touring the community throughout the spring of 2008. The BOE is accepting input from the community and will be meeting over Summer 2008 in order to present their suggested solution in September (tentative date September 10, see BOE timeline). A referendum for funding will likely be presented in early 2009. The work of the CTFSF and many relevant resources can be seen on their website.
These issues are of long term importance to all Guilford residents and it is essential that Guilford citizens are aware of and involved in the discussion and eventual vote on this issue. We welcome participation from individuals or organizations who share an interest in being involved in improving the Guilford community, regardless of parental status.
While the individuals who make up this organization have many strong opinions, our intent is not to tell people how to vote. It is our intent, however, to provide an additional source of education on the background of the issues involved, and to actively encourage participation in the political process.
