BOE 7/7 Meeting Update
The first "facilitated discussion" regarding a BOE decision took place last night.
It was in the conference room of the Fire Dept, part of the emergency services complex (390 Church St.).
It was remarkably spacious and climate controlled, in contrast to the last meeting in the Adams Choral room which was unbearably hot.
The discussion was professionally moderated and began with a nice lecture on the meaning of stewardship and what makes a "good" decision.
He discussed how the decisions made by this BOE will be their legacy.
The moderator began with the question "What do you need to know to make a good decision?", with individual BOE members writing questions on hexagonal sticky notes that were then put together by category. A breakdown:
Cost issues: 12 comments
Community support (can we pass this?): 9 comments Educational impact of facilities: 8 comments + other minor categories One particular question under community support was:
"How big is GuilfordPACT and can they get out the vote?" (the questions were not identified by name)
While the BOE is aware of us it is clear that we need to increase membership to make an impact.
I continue to believe that as citizens the best thing we can do is to show that we are a large, cohesive group able and willing to get out the
vote-- that this is what will give the BOE the confidence to propose an aggressive solution.
*We need to get out there and talk to our friends, neighbors, and others in the community about the issues and get them to join the PACT.* Has everyone sent an invite to their own list of email contacts? Have you talked personally to people about joining? A personal email/conversation about the importance of this will go a long way. It should be easy to join electronically. Please try to make the 7/15 meeting and bring a friend and/or neighbor or two.
I know liaison committee is working on the PTOs, anyone who has contacts with other groups is encouraged to pass on the importance of this.
There are binders on my porch with trifolds if anyone wants to borrow and take a spin around their neighborhood or any gathering in Guilford to discuss, sign petitions, increase membership...
